Growing in God: Memorial

Memorial

By Catey

I can’t believe I’ve been writing for KOF for more than a year now. I’m equally shocked at how long the magazine has been around… it seems like just yesterday that I started reading the Blogspot newsletter that Kylie had been working on.

As I look through the past few years with KOF, I see a tremendous amount of growth, even in such a short time. Sometimes I look back at things I wrote, or the ideas we had, and I can see God moving in mysterious ways over our work.

It’s important to consider what happened in our pasts and see where we’ve come from. In fact, it is so important that in the book of Joshua, you constantly see Joshua building memorials or altars of remembrance to help the Israelites remember what God had done for them.

If you walked through Canaan shortly after Joshua had conquered it, you would find that all the places where significant battles had happened, people were delivered from their enemies, or great miracles occurred, there was always a memorial stone.

It’s equally important for a Christian to keep a spiritual memorial stone. Whether this is through a certain time that you take to reflect on all that God has done in your past, a journal of where you’ve come from and where you hope to go, try to keep track of what God’s up to.

I keep a journal and have for three years. It’s encouraging to look back on some of my old entries, to see what I was thinking about, what interested me, what I struggled with, and the lessons God was teaching me.

So… what’s God been doing in your life? It’s often hard to see when you’re going through it, but try to make a ‘memorial stone’ of your heart, and you’ll see God at work for years to come.

For ideas on prayer and memorial journaling, check out the Ignition Challenge article titled ‘Sparks of Mercy – When Prayer is Hard’ from Week Three of the Challenge.

Do you want the KOF staff to pray for you? Go ahead and send us an email (address on the ‘contact’ page).

We’re always glad to hear from you,
