Music From My Heart: You Never Give Up On Me/ Definition of Me

You Never Give Up On Me, by Josh Bates
Time after time you’ve been left behind
Like the sun when it’s starting to rain
Time after time you’ve been forgotten
Like a picture that’s faded with age
Time after time you ran after me
When I was still running away
You never give up on me
No, You never give up on me
Though I’m weak you are strong
You told me I still belong
No, you never, never give up on me
Time after time I’ve used your grace
As a way to do what I please
I’ve taken for granted prayers that you answered
Never been all I could be
You are holding out your hands
And now I clearly see
You never give up on me
No, You never give up on me
Though I’m weak you are strong
You told me I still belong
No, you never, never give up on me
You always erase all my mistakes
You lift me up when I’m down
Through all the ages, Your love never changes
You welcome me just as I am
You never give up on me
No, You never give up on me
Though I’m weak you are strong
You told me I still belong
No, you never, never give up on me
Never give up, never give up on me…
I love Josh Bates’ music! He only has one CD, called “Perfect Day”, and I started to like his music when he opened up for Casting Crowns in a concert I went to in March 2007.
This is my favorite song from the whole CD. It is saying how the Lord never gives up on us, even when we give into temptation, and when we disappoint him.
The song say “You always erase all my mistakes/ you lift me up when I’m down/ through all the ages, your love never changes/ you welcome me just as I am”. Jesus welcomes us, just as we are, sinners, and He loves us no matter what.
Never give up on Christ, because Christ never gives up on us!
Definition of Me, by Steven Curtis Chapman
Here come those words again
I run for cover, I’m dodging them.
But still they seem to find their way
around my best defense
Here come those little thoughts
of all I ought to be but I’m not
I try talking to myself
but I’m still not convinced
I’m good, I’m bad, I’m everything in between oh
I’m this, I’m that, but really God we both know
It is Your love that defines me
and Your love that reminds me
it’s not what I do
This life I live, You have given
and in You I am hidden
This is what I know is true
that the definition of me is You
This ladder never ends
I climb up then we slide down again
Still they say you’ve not arrived
until you reach the top
But Your kingdom’s upside down
it is the servant who wears the crown
First is last and last is first
and You’re all that I’m not
‘Cause I’m weak, You’re strong, I’m empty ‘til You fill me
I sing this song to keep myself remembering
It is Your love that defines me
and Your love that reminds me
it’s not what I do
This life I live, You have given
and in You I am hidden
This is what I know is true
that the definition of me is You
I have been made by You
I have been saved by You
All that I am is all because of You
I’m weak, You’re strong, I’m empty but You fill me
I’m singing this song to keep myself remembering
It is Your love that defines
and Your love that reminds me
it’s not what I do
This life I live You have given
and in You, I am hidden
This is what I know is true
that the definition of me is You
I own the CD with this song on it, and love the whole CD. Steven Curtis Chapman is a wonderful Christian artist, and has had some awesome songs over the many years that he’s been singing.
This song, on the CD, mentions two verses that gave him inspiration for the song:
Colossians 3:3: For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Act 17:28: For in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’
This song is telling us that it’s Christ’s love that defines us, and that he is the definition of us. That means that everything we do and say should be for the glory of God. I know, I say that all the time, but isn’t it just so true?
Christ is the definition of us, always remember…
Do everything for Him!
