Young Poets: Essences of Fall

November 1, 2008

I see the turning coloured leaves
That are falling from the trees.
The coolness of Fall is in the air,
Oh, it is so fair!

The beautiful colours I see
Waving in the breeze:
Orange, brown and deep red,
Some still alive, some now dead.

The grass is withering at long last,
Bent over in an Autumn blast.
The last of the yellow mums drop their last petals,
The sting has been lost from the nettles.

There’ll be yummy soups to warm,
When you come in from a storm.
Delicious pumpkin pie
That your sweet tooth will satisfy.

Hayrides and mazes through corn fields,
Running through woods and rolling down hills.
Jumping in a pile of leaves,
Or Simply feeling the soft breeze.

Family gatherings are nigh,
Each one ends with a sigh.

The birds are heading south,
There are no more worms for little ones’ mouths.
Butterflies have flown,
To find a much warmer home.

Light a warm fire in the fireplace,
Make it quick, make it in haste.
Bring out a snug blanket and hot chocolate —
We are staying up late.

I just simply love the season named Fall,
Like I would love a favourite doll.
It’s the best time of year,
But doesn’t last too long, I fear.

Winter is just ’round the bend,
Icy winds its ready to send.
The colours of Fall will soon fall away,
And we’ll find a new snow-covered day.

Cherish this beautiful season,
And you don’t need a reason
To simply enjoy Fall.
Yes, just enjoy it all!
